Terms of sale
Draft based on French law. Details in square brackets will be completed before launch and the text approved by a lawyer or accountant. The French version is the binding one.
1. Scope
These terms apply to all sales of knives and accessories via bataillet.com between Julien Bataillet (hereafter “the smith”) and any natural person acting as a consumer within the meaning of the French Code de la consommation (hereafter “the customer”), regardless of country of residence.
2. Products
Every knife is a one-off (1 of 1) and made by hand. The shop distinguishes two categories, which determine the right of withdrawal:
- Ready pieces: finished one-off pieces, offered with photographs of the actual piece and sold as they are.
- Custom made to order: commissioned pieces that are made only after the order, according to the customer’s specifications or wishes.
Sold pieces remain visible on the website, marked “Sold Out”, but are not offered again.
3. Prices and currency
Prices are charged in euros (EUR). A display in US dollars (USD) is for guidance only; the amount shown in euros is always the binding one. Shipping costs are shown separately before the order is completed. As the smith benefits from the small-business exemption (Art. 293 B CGI), no VAT is shown on invoices.
4. Ordering
Basket, entry of contact and delivery details, choice of shipping method, payment. By clicking “Place order and pay”, the customer makes a binding offer. The contract is concluded with the automatic order confirmation sent by email.
5. Payment
Payment is processed by Stripe. Accepted payment methods: Credit card, SEPA direct debit, PayPal (depending on activation at Stripe). Card details are processed exclusively by Stripe and never pass through the smith’s server.
6. Delivery
Shipping is from France to the following zones. Every shipment is insured and tracked. Shipping costs and the estimated delivery time per zone are shown to the customer before the order is completed (Art. L111-1 Code de la consommation).

For “Custom made to order” pieces, the individual production time stated on the product page is added. For customers outside the European Union, including the United States, customs duties, import taxes or other charges may apply on import. These are borne by the customer and are not included in the purchase price.
7. Retention of title
The smith remains the owner of the delivered goods until the purchase price has been paid in full.
8. Right of withdrawal
The separate right of withdrawal applies. Please note the distinction made there between “Ready pieces” and “Custom made to order”.
9. Legal guarantees
Independently of the right of withdrawal, the customer benefits from the statutory guarantees under French law: the legal guarantee of conformity (garantie légale de conformité, Art. L217-3 et seq. Code de la consommation, two years from delivery) and the guarantee against hidden defects (garantie des vices cachés, Art. 1641 et seq. Code civil, two years from discovery of the defect). 10. Complaints and out-of-court dispute resolution
In the event of a complaint, the customer may first contact j.bataillet@mac.com. If no agreement is reached, the customer may, free of charge, refer the matter to an approved consumer mediator: [Médiateur de la consommation, noch zu benennen].
11. Applicable law
These terms are governed by French law. For consumers habitually resident in the European Union, the mandatory consumer-protection rules of their country of residence remain unaffected.
