Right of withdrawal

1. Principle

Under French law (Art. L221-18 Code de la consommation), a consumer who concludes a purchase contract online has 14 calendar days to withdraw from the purchase without giving reasons. The period begins on receipt of the goods.

2. Exception for commissioned pieces

Art. L221-28 (3) Code de la consommation excludes the right of withdrawal for goods made to the consumer’s specifications or clearly personalised.

• Custom made to order: pieces made only after the order, according to the customer’s express specifications (dimensions, choice of materials, engraving, individual blade shape). For this category there is no statutory right of withdrawal. This is clearly stated on the product page.
• Ready pieces: finished one-off pieces, offered with photographs of the existing piece. For this category the regular 14-day right of withdrawal applies.

3. How to withdraw (Ready pieces)

The customer gives notice of withdrawal by an unambiguous statement, by email to j.bataillet@mac.com or using the form below. The goods must be returned without undue delay and no later than 14 days after withdrawal. The cost of returning the goods is borne by [Kunde oder Julien, noch festzulegen]. The purchase price, including the original standard shipping costs, is refunded within 14 days of receipt of the goods or proof of their return, using the same means of payment.

Care before returning. Carbon-steel and Damascus blades rust without a protective film. Before returning, the blade must therefore be wiped with a thin film of a suitable oil, for example camellia oil, Ballistol or food-grade mineral oil (petroleum jelly oil), and packed dry, wrapped in paper or cloth. If a knife arrives with rust, surface rust or corrosion marks resulting from a lack of care during the return transport, the customer is liable for the loss in value (Art. L221-23 Code de la consommation). The loss in value is deducted from the refund; with a damaged blade this can amount to the full purchase price, in which case no refund is made.

4. Gift cards

The 14-day right of withdrawal applies to the purchase of a gift card as long as the code has not yet been redeemed.
